Time for another Member Spotlight ! Monica has been with us for a couple years now. To see the work she has put in and the progression she has made is admirable ! We are so happy to have Monica as one of our valued athletes !!

1. Just a little bit about yourself. (background, where you are from, schooling, occupation etc)

Hiiii! I'm Monica, I am 24 years old. I was born and raised in Virginia. I have a sister, Emily aka Sissy. I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2014 with a degree is Health, Physical Education and Exercise Science. I am currently working at a physical therapy clinic as a physical therapy tech. And I also volunteer at two other locations. My goal is to go to grad school and get my DPT (Doctorate of Physical Therapy).

2. How did you hear about CFPW8 and what made you decide to join?

I had heard about Crossfit before but I was too scared to try it. In 2013 my friend had recently joined CFPW8 and I was convinced to finally take the plunge. I started out at the old box and for the first few weeks I would only go to class with her or my sister. I decided to join because I wanted to challenge myself and get stronger. 2.5 years later and my only regret was that I did not start Crossfit earlier.

3. Any athletic background?

Growing up I played several sports. I went through phases of baton, ballet and softball. And in high school I decided to do track for a year (I really don't know what I was thinking). But I stuck with cheering. I started off with association when I was in first grade and kept cheering through my senior year of high school. I cheered for sideline and competition.

4. What has been your proudest accomplishment at the gym?

Finishing these workouts everyday has been an accomplishment for myself, since they have been so much fun lately... But my proudest accomplishments are definitely when I PR my lifts, specifically joining the two hundred club for my back squat. But most recently my proudest accomplishment at the gym would have to be getting strict pull ups.

5. What keeps you motivated to keep coming in?

Knowing where I started and how far I have come these past few years keeps me motivated to keep coming in. I know what I am capable of and what I can accomplish in the future. I set personal goals for myself and I want to be able to achieve them. I am getting stronger everyday and I like being able to see the results in and out of the gym.

6. Whats your favorite meal to eat after a long hard workout?

The fatty inside me would say my favorite meal would either be pizza and beer or Mexican and margs after a long workout. These combos have definitely happened before but I'm usually boring and eat chicken or steak with my protein shake.
